Piqué, Bartra, Alba, Sergio and Iniesta help Spain to win 2-0 win against England, Arda Turan scores as Turkey beat Qatar and Belgium beat Italy although Vermaelen doesn’t feature
Friday was a very productive evening indeed for Barça’s European players that were involved in international friendlies. Spain, Turkey and Belgium all collected wins against England, Qatar and Italy respectively.
Vicente del Bosque started all of Gerard Piqué, Marc Bartra, Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquets and Andrés Iniesta in Spain’s friendly against fellow Euro 2016 finalists England at the José Rico Pérez in Alicante.
After the first half ended without score, Villarreal full-back Mario Gaspar finally broke the deadlock after 72 minutes. Twelve minutes later, Arsenal’s Santi Cazorla extended that lead to 2-0. Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba both had chances to get their names on the scoresheet too, but were denied by a couple of fine interventions from Joe Hart.
Arda Turan on target
With his chance to finally make his debut for Barça on the horizon, Arda Turan got some valuable match practice in Turkey’s 2-1 win over Qatar in Doha. The home side led until the 70th minute thanks to a goal from Ali Assadalla, whereupon Arda Turan himself got his side back on level terms and just three minutes later Tosun secured the win.
It was also a fine evening for Belgium, who beat four time world champions Italy 3-1, although Barça’sThomas Vermaelen was left on the bench throughout. Candreva put the Italians ahead after just three minutes, but goals from Vertonghen, De Bruyne and Batshuay eventually secured the win for the home side.
