Josep Maria Bartomeu expressed his delight at FC Barcelona’s Club World Cup final win over River Plateon Sunday.
“It’s spectacular what we have achieved, and playing at this high level. The team has a system and idea that does not change,” the president said.
With the latest title, Luis Enrique’s side have racked up five trophies this calendar year, a feat which was also achieved in 2011, and Bartomeu feels that the team has been at the summit of the sport for the last ten years.
“This team has been at the top of world football since the arrival of Ronaldinho,” and Bartomeu believes the team can continue to dominate: “The motivation is always there, and when you enjoy what you do, success follows.”
Barça defeated River 3-0 and the president praised the Argentine side’s efforts but lauded the work of his own players.
“River Plate fought until the end, they played with courage but Barça are very tough to beat. Whoever the opponent, the team plays at a high standard and Leo Messi is the best player in the history of football.”
Finally, with the New Year approaching, the president wished for good health for his players: “We hope that 2016 is as successful as this year, with fewer injuries. Now it’s time to enjoy the festivities.”
