Barcelona now have their third Club World Cup, a trophy that confirms their hegemony as well as giving them another competition to boast about winning. The merit and difficulty of this tournament really stems from getting there in the first place by winning the Champions League, and Barca, let us not forget, rounded off their third world crown after winning practically all the trophies you can win. This year, they won five, in 2009 they won six, and in 2011, they also won five. With such a lavish trophy cabinet, no-one can doubt that we are looking at the best cycle of history, and of course, the best team of all time. This team has refreshed itself, getting rid of some players and bringing others in, but not too many, with Alves, Piqué, Busquets, Iniesta and Messi part of all three triumphs.
The king
And above all, Messi is still there. Leo is the king around who this unique brand of football has been built, a type of football that no-one, no matter how hard they tried, has been able to imitate.
That is why this Barca side are so great, because they win playing great football and putting on a spectacle, taking all the essences of this marvellous sport which was invented, to delight and enjoy. No other team can say the same and I doubt that in the future another team will emerge capable of achieving what Barca have achieved. And yet there is still so much more to achieve. Let no-one forget that Messi, at just 28 years, still has a lot more to offer, and that Neymar is the prince of this kingdom that Barcelona are aspiring to perpetuate. And to those who may claim that the Club World Cup is a minor competition, please, remember that.
