Barcelona is looking for a new backup to the ‘MSN‘ trio after the departure of Pedro Rodríguez, and a shortlist of potential replacements gets bigger every day. First, it was Celta Vigo striker Nolito, followed by Dynamo Kiyv Andriy Yarmolenko, Valencia winger Sofiane Feghouli and Manchester City speedster Jesús Navas. Should we add another name?
A good suggestion would be Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo. The 30-year-old Portuguese has played well throughout his career for Manchester United and the Spanish capital giants. The Portugal international is one of the highest scorers in La Ligahistory, and he could become a solid choice to be on the bench behind Messi, Suárez and Neymar.
Because of his age, Ronaldo is in a clear physical and technical decline, and he has failed to score so far this season for his club; his status as a starter should be in jeopardy with the great preseason performances of Jesé Rodríguez, Denis Cheryshev and Lucas Vázquez. If he’s headed to the bench, why not do it at Barcelona?
Pedro had a good season as a backup in the last campaign, with 6 goals and 6 assists in the Spanish league, and those numbers were enough to provide some help to the ‘MSN’ trio that scored 122 goals. While Ronaldo is clearly not the same as before, he has enough quality to reach those numbers over a 38-game season.
His decline in form should definitely bring his market value down, and while Manchester United will try to fight to bring him back to Old Trafford, the Catalan giants do have the appeal and the money to beat the Red Devils since they are free to sign and register players in January.
This move would make sense tactically as well: Pedro played as a winger with scoring skills who was able to perform in any of the three frontline spots, and Ronaldo has done just that throughout his career. His addition could certainly help Barça in the very few games where MSN needs to be rested.
not possible at all, we should stop dreaming
