A long time has passed since they signed their contracts and were officially presented as Barcelona players. They’ve since become the most desired signings in Barça’s recent history: not because the team’s not working, but because of the circumstances, the FIFA ban which meant the Catalan side could not register Arda Turan and Aleix Vidal until January.
The two players will never forget January 4, 2015. It was the day they could finally feel like proper Barcelona players. It was the day that the curtains came up on their Camp Nou careers. FIFA’s ban is over and Barça, who won five out of six titles last season, can resister new signings once again. Arda and Vidal are now available for action in La Liga, the Copa del Rey and the Champions League.
Luis Enrique’s most wanted men are now at his disposal. With Arda and Vidal, the team gains work-rate, speed, talent and depth. They still have to prove themselves if they want to be regular starters, but they will be important in the second half of the season as Lucho looks to rotate and keep his players fresh and ready to win titles. The objective is bigger than ever: to become the first team to retain the Champions League.
Barça’s boss has never missed the opportunity to big the two new signings up: “They are players with the right personality to play for this club,” he said before Saturday’s Catalan derby with Espanyol. From Wednesday onwards, in the Copa del Rey against the same side, albeit at Camp Nou this time, they will have the chance to prove that.
