Lionel Messi will be offered a new contract at Barcelona which would see him finish his career at the Nou Camp, according to Spanish newspaper Sport.
The four-time FIFA Ballon d’Or winner is already the highest-paid player at the club, but it is understood Barcelona wish to tie their star man down until the end of his career.
Messi’s current contract takes him through until the end of the 2017-18 season, and he has a release clause of €250million, with an annual salary believed to be €20m.
Sport report that the Argentina superstar is keen to stay at the Nou Camp, with Barcelona showing him complete support amid allegations of tax fraud.
Despite this, there has been speculation over his future, with some sections of the media reporting Messi could leave Spain in the wake of his dispute with the authorities.
Before tying down Messi to a new contract, Sport report that Neymar is the priority in terms of a new contract.
Josep Maria Bartomeu, speaking in a recent interview with 8TV, said: ‘This is the season of his renewal, yes.
‘But from here, we will try not to broadcast the details of the negotiations and work discreetly to be able to renew [Neymar’s] contract.’
Barcelona are currently joint-top of La Liga with seven wins from their first nine matches, with Neymar playing a part in eight.
Messi started the first six, but has been sidelined for a month with a knee injury. The 28-year-old is expected to miss a further month, before returning in time for the start of December.
