Luis Enrique says it will be “bad news” if Barcelona are left without Javier Mascherano for four games.
The Argentine was sent off in the second half of his side’s 3-1 win over Eibar for saying “la concha de tu madre” to the linesman.
However, Luis Enrique suggests the saying is common in Argentina and that the phrase was not directed at the official.
Gerard Pique was banned for four games earlier this season for comments to an assistant referee and the same ban for Mascherano would see him miss the Clasico against Real Madrid in November.
“It would be bad news [to have Mascherano banned for four games,” the Barça boss admitted.
“But it’s up to them to judge what he said and to whom he said it.
“Mascherano said that what he said was to himself, not directed at the linesman. We should learn from this.”
