Barcelona and Argentina superstar Lionel Messi has admitted that Arsenal’s David Ospina made him ‘want to die’ after a stunning double save in the Copa America, as per the London Evening Standard.
Messi’s Argentina beat Ospina’s Colombia on penalties in the quarter-finals of the Copa America on Friday night, but the goalkeeper put in a stunning performance for his country. The Barcelona superstar had a perfect chance to open the scoring in the first half of the goalless draw, though Ospina made an incredible double save to deny him.
The diminutive forward leapt higher than the defenders around him and looked to have scored his 47th goal for the Argentines until Ospina spread himself right across the goal to parry away his shot.
Messi has since reacted quite well, albeit a tad over-the-top, by stating that he almost died when he saw the save.
“When I saw him on the ground, I thought he wasn’t getting up,” the Argentine told reporters.
“Then when I saw that he’d gotten up to make the save, I wanted to die.”
The Argentine had a remarkable season for Barcelona, winning the second treble of his career since 2009 as they won the La Liga title again, the Copa del Rey and then beat Juventus in the Champions League final in Berlin to complete the historic treble.
Ospina also had a decent season, although nowhere near as successful as the superstar, as he claimed the number one shirt at Arsenal on the way to winning the FA Cup and finishing third in the top flight.
