The Barcelona star remains touch-and-go for the Clasico at the end of November, but Luis Enrique will be relieved he’s not been summoned to travel to South America for two tough games next month.
Argentina manager Gerardo Martino has not named FC Barcelona forward Lionel Messi in his squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Brazil and Colombia.
Following talks between Messi, Barcelona and Argentina, the 28-year-old has been left out as it is the best way of ensuring he makes a full recovery from his knee injury.
Messi, who also missed recent games against Ecuador and Paraguay, will therefore not take part in the matches on November 12 and 17 in Monumental and Barranquilla respectively.
It remains to be seen whether he will be able to return for the Clasico, which will be played on November 21 against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu.
