Neymar Jr.’s dad spoke to Cadena Ser on Tuesday night and speculated that his son could potentially leave FC Barcelona if his fiscal problems are not resolved. “We are talking about [Neymar’s contract] renewal, but there are things which we need to resolve. We are receiving attacks from Brazil and from Spain.
“If we can’t work in Spain, we will have to leave. We need to end these investigations, that they tell us what we can do,” added Neymar’s dad, hinting that one solution to his problems is to abandon Barcelona and play in another country.
He insisted that the management of the Barça player’s image rights should be allowed to work from Brazil. “We pay taxes [on the images] in Brazil because the company that manages the rights is there and it has nothing to do with his salary. I don’t want to speak about persecution, but is we don’t have a comfortable situation we cannot stay. We’ve never had fiscal problems.
“[But] Neymar doesn’t feel the pressure. He is aware of the responsibility that he has to be a special player, but that doesn’t make him uncomfortable.”
He also briefly touched on January’s Ballon d’Or, saying he’d like to see all three Barcelona forwards on the podium: “I hope [Lionel] Messi, Neymar and [Luis] Suarez are the top three. It’s a really big honour that my son is with those two.”
