Thomas Vermaelen insists he has no fear of being injured again.
Barcelona’s Belgian defender was out for almost the entirely of last season and after he returned this year, picked up a new problem, in his calf. Now he is fit to play once again, although hasn’t yet returned to action.
“I understand that you are going to ask about what’s going on in my head when I play [because of my injuries], but when I am playing I’m not afraid of getting injured again. I am fine,” he explained at a press conference on Tuesday morning, ahead of Barcelona’s clash with BATE Borisov at Camp Nou.
Halloween
The player denied he had been chosen for the media session because other players had been involved in Barcelona’s Halloween prank which went wrong after their win over Getafe on Saturday night.
“That’s not why I’m here. of course we are sorry about what happened, it’s not something we wanted – to offend people, people from Getafe, the fans, if we did, we are sorry.
“We made a statement on Sunday, Andres spoke to Getafe captain. We didn’t want to offend anyone.
“I didn’t know that was going to happen. as I said, sorry it happened. The whole club is sorry people felt offended. “I’d rather leave it like this, the club and captain have done everything to apologise. Let’s focus on the game tomorrow.”
