With six games left in the league season, Saturday’s opponents are in 10th place in the table, still in with a chance of a place in Europe
Coaches’ meeting
On Friday at the Power8 Stadium there will be the traditional meeting of the two coaches from FC Barcelona and Espanyol, Luis Enrique and Sergio González, just 24 hours before the Catalan derby kicks off.
There are six games left in the league season and there is still a lot play for at both ends of the table. Barça and Espanyol meet this Saturday at 4.00pm CET in a crucial Catalan derby for both the Barcelona based clubs. The blaugranes lead the league by two points from their nearest rivals Real Madrid and they will be looking to maintain that gap with a win against their neighbours. Espanyol, for their part, still have hopes of making it into Europe next season.
Sergio González’s side are currently in 10th position in the table and have not lost in their last six league matches, recording four draws and two victories. Barça have lost for eight games in the league, registering seven wins and a draw in that time.
The difference between Barça and Espanyol in terms of stats does not end there. The blaugranes have the best goal difference in the league with a figure of +70. Meanwhile, Espanyol are on -1 after scoring 39 goals and conceding 40. With regards to goalscorers ‘los pericos’ have a potent trio with Sergio García having scored 11, closely followed by Caicedo and Stuani who have 9 each. The blaugranes, of course, have their own attacking trident of Messi with 35 goals, Neymar is on 18 and Luis Suárez has 11.
This is the comparison of the statistics for Barça and Espanyol ahead of the derby in Week 33 of the league season:
