Villarreal manager Marcelino has hailed Barcelona star Neymar after his showing in Barcelona’s 3-0 win on Sunday – although as a fan, not as a manager.
Neymar scored twice in the win and his second – Barça’s third – the second of which was particularly memorable.
of the strike, Marcelino said: “As the manager of the opposite side I couldn’t applaud the goal, but if I was a fan, I would have.”
The Brazilian striker has scored 11 goals in La Liga this season and Marcelino feels he’s in his best moment of form since joining the Catalan club.
“[He is in his best moment] because of how clearly he sees the route to goal and because of his way of playing,” he added.
“He’s growing as a player, he’s still young and he is the most decisive player in the league.”
Marcelino also spoke about Barcelona’s system, praising their new-found versatility and their ability to counter-attack since the arrival of Luis Suarez and Neymar.
“Barça played with a settled style for a lot of years,” he said.
“But since Luis Enrique came in they’ve added counter-attacks to their game. Now they have more strings to their bow.”
