Luis Enrique will make changes for Wednesday’s Copa del Rey clash with Espanyol at Camp Nou.
The first rotation won’t come as any surprise. We are talking of Marc-Andre ter Stegen, who will come Claudio Bravo. It will be a chance for the German to make a point after he was overlooked in the Club World Cup in Japan.
Ter Stegen has not actually played in nearly a month, with his last appearance coming in the Champions League draw with Bayer Leverkusen at the beginning of December.
That will almost certainly not be the only change in respect to Saturday’s goalless draw with Espanyol at Cornella-El Prat, though.
There are at least two changes expected in defence, with Marc Bartra and Adriano expected to come into the side. Javier Mascherano and Jordi Alba are expected to drop out of the side.
However, the other members of the back four – Gerard Pique and Dani Alves – could rest, too, with Thomas Vermaelen, Jeremy Mathieu and Aleix Vidal candidates to come in.
As for midfield, Sergi Roberto, who would have been a cert to start, will miss out through injury. Therefore, Luis Enrique only has four natural options, not including Mascherano, for the middle of the pitch: Andres Iniesta, Sergio Busquets, Ivan Rakitic and Arda Turan.
Further forward, the front three should start. Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar have a point to prove after Espanyol locked them out in La Liga this past weekend.
Galca will change things as well
Espanyol will also rotate, although not as much. It’s possible that Bardi will get a chance in goal, while Gerard Moreno, Abraham, Salva Sevilla and Ruben Duarte could all come into the starting line-up.
