Barcelona vice-captain Javier Mascherano feels that the team still has a lot left in the tank following their shocking 4-0 Spanish Super Cup loss to Athletic Bilbao on Friday evening.
In his post-match interview, Mascherano did not mince words as he admitted that the squad did not play to their highest level but remained optimistic that the Catalans came make a monumental comeback in the second leg at the Camp Nou and claim their fifth title in 2015.
“We’ve won many games by a lot of goals. It will be difficult because it is a difficult opponent, but we will give everything in Barcelona.
“We aren’t dead yet. We are capable of a comeback.”
Mascherano went on to add that Athletic Bilbao only had “three or four” scoring chances and they managed to score on all of them to capture the lead.
“The defeat came down to a few specific circumstances, because Athletic had three or four chances and scored four goals.”
The Argentine international concluded by stressing that they must make improvements over the weekend and give their all in the second leg on Monday evening.
“The only way we can come back is to correct the mistakes and have faith in the second leg at the Camp Nou.”
Barcelona will host Athletic Bilbao at 10pm on Monday evening at the Camp Nou and will look to avenge their most dramatic loss to a Spanish club in nearly a decade.
