Bravo (10): The Chilean produced some great saves throughout the game. At 0-0 he saved from Benzema; at 2-0 he made a great save from James Rodriguez; and at 3-0 he made a phenomenal stop from Ronaldo when the Portuguese was one on one. He also saved a late header from Benzema.
Alves (8): The Brazilian knew what he had to do and he didn’t mess up. He fulfilled his task of keeping Ronaldo quiet, although he picked up Barça’s only yellow card in the 30th minute.
Pique (8): Not bothered by the jeers aimed at him, he returned to be Barcelona’s ‘Kaiser’. Good on the ball, aware of what was going on around him and even impressive going forward. At 4-0, he was desperate for a fifth goal. In fact, he got annoyed with Munir when the forward missed the chance to make the scoreline a ‘manita’.
Mascherano (7): The ‘Jefecito’ only lasted 27 minutes of the game. He left the pitch injured and was replaced by Mathieu.
Alba (8): Did what he needed to do: Kept Bale out of the game and carried the ball forward well, linking up with Neymar. He also produced a great touch to set up Suarez’s second goal. As always, he’s a guarantee.
Busquets (7): Did not have a bad game, but he was erratic in his passing at times. With Madrid clearly beaten, he did start to look a little too comfortable on occasions. In defence, though, he was impeccable. It says a lot that Barça can win so easily at the Bernabeu with the ‘light’ version of Busquets.
Rakitic (8): The Croatian looked like he has never been out injured. Generous with the ball, he kept things moving and could even have scored with an early chance. Left the pitch after an hour to be replaced by Messi.
Sergi Roberto (9): Sergi Roberto continued his impressive form and now has to be taken seriously by all of Barcelonismo. The academy product set up the first goal with a fine pass and played another 90 minutes, confirming he has now ‘exploded’ on to the scene.
Iniesta (10): If anyone thought we’d seen the best of Iniesta already, they were wrong. The midfielder produced a unique, magical, spectacular, total (add your own adjectives) performance. He scored a golazo and created Neymar’s goal, but he did so much more than that.
Neymar (10): Silver, yes. Because Lionel Messi deserves the Ballon d’Or, but Neymar clearly deserves to come second. He was a nightmare for Danilo, who couldn’t deal with him. He scored the second and assisted the third with a sublime touch. He also provoked Isco’s red card. What more can be asked for?
Suárez (10): What a No.9 Barça have! In recent years, Eto’o, Villa and Co…. now they have Suarez. First chance, first goal. The Uruguayan beat Navas with a top finish and then added the fourth with another fine effort.
Substitutes
Mathieu (8): The Frenchman didn’t make any mistakes and won almost everything in the air. At this level, he’s a great alternative to the Pique-Mascherano combination. In addition, he didn’t take risks with the ball and didn’t lose the ball in any dangerous areas. Intelligent.
Messi (8): The best player in the world made a calm return to the pitch. Still out of rhythm, he was still able to control the game against a beaten Madrid in the final stages.
Munir (7): The canterano showed a more ambitious side here when he tried to surprise Keylor Navas from long range. However, he also annoyed Pique when he missed a chance late on and didn’t pass to the defender.
