Barcelona vice-president Jordi Mestre is optimistic that Leo Messi will be able to play in the Clásico.
“Messi is recovering, working hard; he is trying to bounce back, but not so much as soon as possible but in a proper way. The important thing is for him to make a good recovery. It will be for the medical team and for Messi himself to have the last word. Things are going as well as expected and it won’t do to rush things. I hope he’ll be back for the Clásico”, Mestre said.
Mestre also praised Barça’s fine team performance in the victory against Getafe. “We had a very good match at Getafe. All round we played extremely well. In the first half Getafe made things difficult for us, but in the second half when we got the goals, we were more in control of the game”.
As for the league position, with Real Madrid and Barcelona joint top, Mestre considers it quite normal for the two to be ahead of all the others. “We’ve seen it many times before, though Atlético are also in the mix. The season has only just started and there’s a long way to go. The important thing is that we are up there”.
