Mark Hughes, Patrik Andersson, Van Bommel, Thiago and Pepe Reina are the five players that have played for both FC Barcelona and Bayern Munich
There are plenty of familiar faces on the Bayern Munich coaching staff (Pep Guardiola, Domènec Torrent and Carles Planchart), and two of the players were also formerly at Barça: Thiago Alcántara and Pepe Reina. Three other players turned out for both clubs during their careers, namely Mark Hughes, Patrick Andersson and Mark Van Bommel.
Mark Hughes
The Welshman moved from Manchester United to the Camp Nou in the 1986/87 season, playing under Terry Venables and scoring 5 goals in 35 games before going on loan to Bayern. He was in Germany for one season before returning to England, where he is now manager of Stoke City.
Patrick Andersson
The Swede is the only one of the five that played for Bayern before Barça. He was in Bavaria for two seasons (1999-2001), winning the Champions League, and then left for the Camp Nou. He played in the same line-up as Luis Enrique, but never won a regular place under any of Rexach, Antic or Rijkaard, playing a total of 29 games in three seasons (2001-2004).
Mark Van Bommel
The midfielder came to the Camp Nou in 2005/06, the season Frank Rijkaard led the first team to the Champions League title, with fellow Dutchman Van Bommel playing an important role in 38 appearances. The final with Arsenal in Paris was his last game for the club before he was signed by Bayern. He was in Munich for five seasons (2006-2011) and returned to the Camp Nou for the 4-0 defeat to the Catalans in the 2009 Champions League quarter-final.
Thiago Alcántara
The former Barça youth player was the last player to directly move the 1,400 kilometres from the Camp Nou to the Allianz Arena. He made his FCB first team debut in 2009 and left for Germany in 2013. Since then he has been troubled by injuries, but is now back to full fitness and available for selection against his former side at the Camp Nou, where he’ll be meeting up with his brother Rafinha.
Pepe Reina
The goalkeeper was a product of La Masia, and was promoted to the first team in 2000-01 due to injuries to both Arnau and Dutruel. Aged just 18 and the son of another FCB keeper, Miguel Reina, he played 19 games in his first season and 11 in his second, sharing the position with Bonano.
He then spent three years at Villarreal (2002 to 2005) and then went to Liverpool for eight seasons (2005 to 2013), as well as becoming a Spanish international. Last season he was at Napoli and is now at Bayern as a reserve keeper for Neuer.
