Neymar Jr has exploded. The prince has shown he’s a legitimate heir to the throne of the best in the world. Barcelona and world football in general, were left with open mouths after his wonder goal against Villarreal.
When Messi was injured, there were doubts. But Neymar Jr didn’t doubt himself. He is the most magical and unbalancing player on the planet. He’s helped Barcelona head to the Santiago Bernabeu on November 21 as sole leaders of La Liga.
“I’m happy to play the Clasico again,” Neymar told SPORT. “Madrid suit me, I’ve already scored various goals, but now it’s not enough for me to score just one!”
In the first two seasons as a Barcelona star he has played four games against Madrid, with three victories and just one defeat.
Neymar recalled his Clasico debut in the Camp Nou, where he scored in a 2-1 wim. “My family and friends flipped out the first time they saw Barcelona-Madrid, they were all in the stands,” he said.
Neymar works and plays for his place in history. He wants to be the crack of all cracks, and is conscious that Clasicos are the place for him to build his legend. “I always dreamed of playing in games like this,” he said. “In Brazil I played many Clasicos with Santos, against Corinthians and Palmeiras and everything happened. Barcelona-Madrid clashes are more calm, it’s a spectacle that the whole world sees.”
After beating Villarreal 3-0, and with Andres Iniesta and Sergio Busquets in fine fettle, Suarez and Neymar making a great connection, there is grounds for optimism. “In the team there’s commitment, and the dressing room is convinced that we can win, we go out to do that,” said Neymar.
Barcelona are a better team than a month ago, when Messi got injured. The season has advanced and their tendency is to imporove, as Luis Enrique noted on Sunday. Neymar is progressing too. He has been compared with Ronaldinho, Rivaldo and Ronaldo, but Neymar Jr wants to be Neymar Jr. He has personality and his own stamp. In Madrid they’re already claiming Barcelona don’t need Messi, but Neymar isn’t taking the bait. “Leo, remember, is the best in the world and I hope that he recovers because with him we’re stronger,” he explained.
Madrid were beaten in the Pizjuan by Sevilla, but Neymar doesn’t think that will help Barcelona in the Clasico. “Madrid always have big players and come out fighting, we have to go out to do our best job, we have to make it ours,” said the Brazilian.
With Messi out, Neymar is taking Cristiano Ronaldo’s pulse, having bettered him in recent weeks. The Blaugrana No 11, however, isn’t interested in comparisons and said: “Leo and Cristiano are from another world,”, but that doesn’t fly with Barcelona fans. Neymar, right now, is unrivaled.
