Luis Enrique is satisfied with Barcelona’s form. Even with a number of injuries, including one to Lionel Messi, the club have managed to keep up with Real Madrid at the top of La Liga.
In this sense, the Asturian took advantage of the press conference ahead of FC Barcelona-Villarreal to state that the idea of ‘Messidependencia’ is a concept invented b several sections of the press, a theory a long way from reality.
Speaking a much more relaxed tone than in some of his recent appearances and responding to all the questions, Luis Enrique analysed the team’s current form.
“That we are dependent on Messi is just something the press have made up, a theory. Of course, we are better with Messi, but we have shown that we can cope without him.” he said.
“We have a great team and everybody has stepped up in Messi’s absence. Irrespective of who is unavailable, we have a great team both defensively and in attack.
“We are more than just Neymar and Suarez. We should also look at how much the defence and midfield contributes.”
As for the Argentine star’s fitness, Luis Enrique said that things are “going well” but, as reported by SPORT, he pointed out that he will not be rushed back and will only return to action when he is ready.
”Messi’s recovery is going very well. Of course, I would prefer to have everyone available all the time, but the player’s health always comes first,” he continued.
“There is nothing worse for an injured player than a recovery setback. Injured players will not be rushed back. They will return when they are ready.”
