“The most important badge in the world is that of Real Madrid,” said Rafa Benitez, when asked about Barcelona taking the Club World Cup champions badge from Madrid’s shirts and starting to wear it on their own.
Although the coach dismissed the question, it’s clear that it is an honour to wear it on your chest. Barcelona did it in other years, most recently in 2012, but after beating River Plate in Japan, it is time once again for the players to have the badge added to their strips. It was worn for the first time on Wednesday night against Real Betis and Camp Nou, and will continue to do so until December 2016, when there is a new Club World Cup champion.
